26 Oct Remy's done with this silliness

We had Steph’s new boss take some family photos. It was really nice and they turned out great. I really like Fussy Face Remy as much as I love Smiley Baby Remy.

The Triumphant Return of Remoline

1 Sep My Prettiest Little

SO SO Sorry Remoline fans for the ridiculously long delay in posting. We’ve had a lot going on coupled with my laziness in getting back to the blog. What a combo. Let me summarize July and August then I’ll post some sweet Remy pics.

July brought us:

  • The Joneses moved here permanently. yay!
  • A visit from Jill & Ben. double YAY!
  • A visit from Lil Whit for Steph’s 30 th birthday.
  • A visit from Mark & Martha. AND a BIG THANK YOU for fixing the sprinklers, the plumbing and the ridiculous amount of food.
  • Heat, heat and more heat with obnoxious amounts of humidity.
  • I finished school. For real. Not just a class. Waiting on the U of A for final approval. I loved, loved, loved my Finite Kids and miss them all the time.

August summed up:

  • Still waiting on the U of A.
  • Steph & I got to go to Fayetteville for a long weekend.
  • I applied for a job
  • A visit to the most pitiful Farmer’s Market I have ever seen
  • I got turned down for a job. (I was really well suited for it. C’est la vie)
  • Everyone went to a house made of beercans or as Trip and I called it the “trash house”

September is looking to be amazing. It’s my favorite month. Back to school, Razorback football &  tailgating, Looper birthday month, the promise of cooler weather, the return of boots (beautiful!), and Fall TV. This September we are getting family pics made from Steph’s new job, entertaining our totally awesome friends Seth & Ashlee who are coming to visit us from KC. We have 2 football games lined up to watch courtesty of DirecTV’s awesome GamePlan AND a 2 weekend trip to Fayetteville afterwards. YAY for September.

Within about 3 days of her learning she could do this, we had to lower her crib to the lowest setting, as I caught her diving over the side. She’s pretty tall anyway so this just sealed the deal. She’s quite pleased with herself and practices all the time — including trying to use TurtleDog.

Craft

6 Jul Sweetest little monster

Craft is a word I’m not crazy about. It brings up memories of growing up in Rogers and being let out of school early to avoid the Craft Fair traffic. Oh being let out of school early is always great – it’s the “going crafting” that drives me bonkers. I’ve been to these craft fairs and in my opinion painting a Santa’s Helper (an elf?) face on a gourd and calling it a craft is disturbing at worst and tacky at best.

Crafting also brings to mind my least favorite store – Hobby Lobby. Now I’m not insulting Hobby Lobby for all your art, crafting and hobby needs. Clearly they are the winner in this category. Does hobby-ing make you think of frog figurines that have “Gone Fishin?” What about signs that say “Always Kiss Me Good Night?” Note on that: if you need a sign to remind you, there are other issues. I can go on & on about why I can’t stand going to Hobby Lobby (cinnamon decorative brooms!?!) but if you’re reading this you’ve probably already heard it from me.

So why bring up craft and crafting if I have such a disdain for it? I’m surrounded by crafty people.  I’m surrounded by creative people who make  beautiful and interesting things. Remy has been lucky enough to already receive many of these.

My sweet mama is the first person I think of who creates beautiful pieces. Since I can remember  she has sewn clothes, made dolls, cross stitched, hook-rugged, paper crafted and quilted. There’s probably more to that list. Her passion is quilting and she is quite skilled. In most of Remy’s photos she is sitting on or wrapped in a quilt from Grandma. Her newest one is my favorite to date. It’s an alphabet quilt that Remy & I lay on and “read” together. I am excited for the days to come when Remy can tell me what’s on each block of the quilt.

Reading the blocks

Look at that intensity!

Telling me about it

Thanks Grandma!

My besty LOVES crafts. She enjoys her own craft night. She likes to craft things for work. She likes to make her own Halloween costumes (Halloween = gross). She is truly gifted. She does amazing print work, knits, is a recent graduate of a sewing class, is skilled with flower arranging and is Queen of the Dips. Plus she makes my absolute favorite Banana Nut Bread (sorry mom!)

Behold a couple of things Auntie Jill has made for Remy

Remy Art. Literally.

Herbert the Crocheted Bee

Remy likes to give Herbert a hard time.

A note on the super soft and sweet crocheted blanket we are sitting on. This was created by Karen Strain who Jonathan has known since he was a young man throwing rocks and terrorizing Park Place.

Cathy Campbell. Manager of the fabulous Mason’s. Owner of one of my dream cars. Infectious laugh. V. Stylish. A hugger and someone who “loves love.” One of my most beloved and dear friends and I am a better person for it. She crafted something for Remy and could barely contain herself when I was opening it.  This calls for photos only – no need to explain the awesomeness that is about to be revealed.

I asked Cathy to make me one of her fabulous notebooks. When you get a present from Cathy the gift box is decopauged. I cannot explain how much I love this notebook. If you don’t know why, we’ve obviously never met.

I love this notebook so much that I never use it. It's so pretty & perfect.

Thank you all so much for all of Remy’s wonderful gifts AND because of your overwhelming skills and desire to create there will be a Craft Post Part 2.

Sitting Pretty

20 Jun IMG_1540

Remy is such a show off. Just last week we were helping her sit up and practicing the rolling over.  I guess school and the desire to excel has kicked in as she can do both with proficiency now. The rolling over is super cute as she usually puts her feet in the air, grabs them them rolls over and pushes up. This has made us proud plus given us a view of the elusive(and recently unseen) Remy Neck.

We finally got her some toys and she loves them. Blocks and a stacky Giraffe keep her happy for quite a while. So does a piece of paper as I learned after we bought these.

Serious Playtime

 Later that day…

I have no words

She just left it there and kept playing.

Pitiful face

Another day another outfit. I actually decided to dress Remy in something besides a onesie.  She can’t believe it.

Remy wears a size 9-12 month. She's 5 months old.

Playtime.

Yes! She has a neck.

Giving her favorite book some hell.

Father’s Day, JT’s first. He wanted to hang with the Remster in the pool. She did not object.  What’s left out of these pool pictures are the cans of CoorsLight and the iPod playing Dwight Yoakam. Thanks a lot Texas, this is what it’s come to.

Haguewoods - more like Haguewaters. I apologize for that lame Beebs joke.

New suit! Cathy will love it.

A special shout out to my father who is a great cook, knows the ins and outs of the Northeastern Oklahoma Casinos and one of the finest people I know. Love you Dad!

Pool Baby

It’s been a different week here in HoustonTown. Remy started daycare (poor mama) and I started Finite Math (poor poor mama!). Remy has been doing great and math is okay. Due to our new schedules and changes I have been a little slow putting up the awesomeness that is Remy in the pool with JT. Wait no more!

As previously stated JT was and is a HUGE waterbug and Remy shares this love with him. JT had been “itching” (his word not mine) to get Remy into the pool and I have been stoked to get her into a bathing suit with SPF 50+ of course.  I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves, as I believe her and JT’s faces provide all the narration you need.

bath baby video

5 Jun remy bath

After the first post of Remy in the bath I decided that video proof was necessary to see how cute and serious she is about bath time.  It was filmed on our handy dandy Kodak HD camera.  This camera has been excellent for filming Remy. It’s easy to use, keeps its charge, has a few handy features, we got a great deal at Target and is HD. JT insisted on HD. (of course he did)

 Check that baby out below.

Testing the waters here on posting videos. My good friends Todd & Sarah have been offering their help – and it’s much appreciated. They’re top notch blogglers. I think Todd says bloggler and I love how it sounds. Thanks Todd & Sarah!

memorable memorial day

1 Jun DSC_0311

JT & I  did nothing of any interest on this 4-dayer. We did some laundy, yardwork and a little painting  on our bathroom. We got some grocery shopping done and went to one of Jonathan’s co-workers going away party. We watched some streaming Netflix (genius! awesome for parents who love movies!) Pretty boring stuff – but pretty nice to be able to chill and enjoy the most awesome part of the weekend and the part you are really here to read about…

Remy on Memorial Day weekend was truly memorable for us. She’s just a cool kid with a great personality. Not to mention she’s brilliant. and beautiful. and a joy. and funny. and silly. and….oh you get the point.

We learned she loves music and dad’s silly songs

I like your nonsense songs

  Naked babies are unfailingly cute:

I love a baby boot

Remy is loving her own playtime:

Glad I fit in this now.

Down with the S-N-Double O-P-Y

Remy finally wore something besides a onesie.

Fancy pants romper

Remy got to sit in her own chair:

What's this chair for?

Why so serious mama?

I got this.

We took advantage of the beautiful weather and our somewhat tropical backyard to play fashion show with Remy. We also introduced her to the Razorbacks and her love for them.

WOOOOOO

WOOOOOO

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

PigSooiee! Razorbacks!

We tired her out after that – and probably weirded her and the neighbors out a little. It was time for Remy to chill out both figuratively and literally.

chillaxin

She hung out for a while then took notice of her dad.

What's going on with Daddy?

The beasts needed washing followed by Remy’s first dip into the pool.

TurtleDog

Molly not scared. A rarity.

Testing the waters

Splashdown

We ran a  few more errands, then Remy let us know she was D-O-N-E. Probably with the photos, too.

Enough with the photos! Leave me be woman!

One more outfit change, this one for her father.

JT loves the shirt, I love the thighs

End scene.

Other things of minor interest from this weekend: JT ate an apricot after asking if you peeled it, my fish tacos were not quite a success, our local Kroger had a lady playing the oboe with automated keyboard accompaniment and Revenge of the Nerds is still funny.

We’ll post the remaining eleventy-billion pictures from this weekend to Flickr soon.

Hope everyone had as good a weekend as we did!

25 May

JT loves simple meals. I have tried to impress him with variations on homemade sauces, intricately cooked scallops and salmon about anyway you can make it. However he always seems most thrilled when I make a traditional family down home meal.

Honestly we eat pretty healthy. As I have already mentioned I love salmon, enjoy grilled and steamed vegetables and substitute turkey for ground beef at all times. So every now and then we indulge. JT usually “indulges” with a McDonalds hamburger (plain with cheese of course). In my effort to indulge him and my need to try new recipes I gave good old Southern Fried Chicken a try.

Naturally I went straight to the master of all things fattening, fried and delicious – Paula Deen. Now her accent goes all over me and she says “y’all” a bit too much for my taste, but the lady makes some damn good, albeit not heart healthy food. But that’s the point of an occassional indulgence, right?

I used this simple recipe which yielded excellent results. I have never made fried chicken before and was surprised at the ease and speed of it. I know my good friend BenFann would like it because it takes a whole cup of  Texas Pete’s. I was also worried about this Texas Pete’s addition as anyone who knows JT knows he is terrified of anything remotely spicy. Not to worry. It was perfectly seasoned, not too salty and had that nice crispy crust we usually deprive ourselves of with all our skinless grilled chicken breasts. It was also incredibly juicy.  We’ll be making this again..in a couple of months. It’s a pretty good substitute for my favorite fried chicken in the whole world.  I used store bought flaky biscuits and glazed them with a honey butter sauce for a side. No vegetables tonight – just the indulgences.

The finished products:

crispy fried goodness

 And the verdict from JT?

JT mealing the chicken, Remy mealing her hand

JT approved. Next he’ll want a pot of beans and corn bread, to which I say —  Gross.  Make that yourdamnself.

*FYI-I know how to spell winner & dinner. It’s an inside joke. If you get it – you get it.

nice little saturday

24 May nice little baby

Let’s be honest – I hated it here from the moment we moved. We left our version of the Shire and moved to the Hellmouth. (For those keeping track, according to my friend Niscole, Cincinatti is Mordor.) We left friends, family and I was 5 months pregnant.

This weekend was probably the best I’ve had since we’ve been here. It almost felt  home-like. What made it so good was that it was absolutley normal. I didn’t feel like this is pretty good but it would be better if my besty, any of our other friends, or family were here.  Jonathan mowed, we took the recycling (still miss that sweet curbside action!), we hit up Target, Best Buy and HEB.

Yep we’re like  Frank the Tank.

“Actually, we’ve got a nice little Saturday planned. We’re going to Home Depot to pick out some wallpaper, then maybe we’ll hit Bed Bath and Beyond. I don’t know! I don’t know if we’ll have enough time! “

Other highlights of our lowkey weekend include:

  • Jonathan got me a a Wii. The new Wii is sleek, plays Netflix streaming and let’s this terrible gamer play her favorite games from childhood. Yep – Zelda for NES and Zelda: A Link to the Past SNES will be played at my house again sans cartridge and with new fancy controller.
  • Remy comes alive! Remy has taken up babbling and is trying REALLY HARD to crawl and to stand. She gets more and more fun everyday. She had lots of playtime with JT – not sure who enjoyed it more. I’ll let you be the judge.

who's making who laugh?

daddy - you crazy

how JT helps Remy get ready for bed

  •  I made this on Saturday. It was delicious, Jonathan approved, I think it would impress my foodie friend Laura and as my father likes to say it was “restaraunt quality.”
  • We got to sit outside. We enjoyed the relatively low humdity, breeze and the shade.  Remy enjoyed her toes.

delicious baby feet

  • LOST series finale on Sunday. We’ve been watching this since we started dating and have almost always enjoyed it. Now we’re ready for our summer programs to come back on the TV. We’re looking at you True Blood and Warehouse 13.

Really how can anyone not have a nice little saturday with this face around?
